Longshoremen from Lake Superior Warehousing Company began to discharge the cargo early Tuesday morning. First to go were the containers. There were 20 of them, all filled with smaller components for the wind turbines.

That done, it was time for the glamour part of the cargo, the 66 wind turbine blades, loaded onto the deck and below deck

Trucks were waiting to take the blades, one at a time, to another part of the Port Terminal where they were kept until they would again be put on trucks for the trip to North Dakota

Work continued into the evening.

With general cargo ships, welders are ever present. Much of the rigging that holds these large pieces in place on the deck are welded onto the metal floor of the deck or cargo hold. Once the piece is released and pulled out of the ship, welders come by and remove the weld that held the piece on the ship. At the end of the job, the floor is clean of welds and ready for the next cargo.
