There are seven berths available (6,600 lineal feet of dock space) at full Seaway draft (8.23 meters = 27 feet). Since the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959, reciprocal trade between the Midwest and Northern Europe has expanded to ports in Africa, Asia, the Mediterranean and South America. In an average 9-month season, vessels from countries all around the globe call on Duluth for a great variety of cargo. A full complement of vessel agents, stevedores, freight forwarders, Great Lakes pilots, custom house brokers, terminal operators, vessel and cargo surveyors, and professional longshoremen are here to greet them. |
